Groppello
The hills on the south-western shore of Lake Garda are home to Groppello. The variety owes its name to the compact, knotted form of its grape clusters – known in dialect as »gropo« – which develop a distinctly individual aromatic character on the moraine soils of Lombardy. Groppello lends wines a delicate, red-berry fruit, carried by a characteristic spiciness of white pepper and herbs, alongside a lively acidity. This makes it a wonderful companion at the table, pairing beautifully with antipasti and fish.
The variety truly comes into its own in the classic Chiaretto, the salmon-pink rosé of the Riviera del Garda. How harmoniously Groppello performs alongside Marzemino and Sangiovese can be discovered at Marangona. Their organic Chiaretto captures the saline minerality of the lake to perfection, weaving together notes of rose blossom with wild strawberries.
