Wine Description for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Teatro Riserva 2019 from Salicutti
- Colour & Appearance
- Dark, transparent ruby red with the characteristic luminosity of a great Sangiovese. Brilliant clarity that reflects the purity of biodynamic viticulture.
- Nose
- This 2019 Teatro presents itself as a sleeping giant – closed, mysterious, promising. Dark fruit shows itself tightly bound, enveloped by smoky notes, a hint of shoe polish and subtle reduction. The bouquet recalls an artfully wrapped gift that demands patience. Large glasses and plenty of air are not a recommendation here, but a necessity.
- Palate
- What the nose conceals, the palate reveals with impressive clarity: this is a wine of cathedral-like structure. Powerful and taut, yet with an elegance reminiscent of Bruce Lee – nimble, precise, lethally efficient. The tannins show themselves delicate and silky, the ripe acidity drives the wine forward with inner luminosity. Immense depth and density, without ever appearing heavy. A structural masterpiece that tempts one to pour repeatedly.
- Finish
- Orchestral and far-reaching. The fine tannic structure carries for minutes, whilst the acidity provides lasting freshness. A finish that underscores the architectural grandeur of this wine.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Cru Teatro encompasses only 0.7 hectares and opens amphitheatre-like towards the south. At well over 500 metres altitude, it is the coolest and highest-lying site of Salicutti. Sandy-clay soils with a skeleton of fine gravel through to large limestone boulders. Vines from 1994 that have never been in contact with conventional pesticides.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Sangiovese from biodynamic cultivation. Salicutti was the first organically certified estate in Montalcino. Most gentle maturation that gives precedence to the terroir. 13.5% alcohol – remarkably moderate for the power this wine unfolds.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Ossobuco, wild boar stew, aged Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano. A wine that deserves great cuisine.
- Special Features
- A wine that demands time – at least a decade of cellar ageing will reveal its true potential. Already a structural monument now, a legend in the future.
