Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or blanc 2023 by Charlopin Tissier

Character
Charlopin Tissier, based in Gevrey-Chambertin and renowned above all for powerful Pinot Noirs, demonstrates with this Bourgogne Côte d’Or blanc the Burgundian Chardonnay signature in its most accessible form. The Bourgogne Côte d’Or appellation, created only in 2017, allows winemakers to blend grapes from various vineyard sites in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune – a democratic approach to honest, terroir-driven Burgundy. The 2023 benefits from a vintage that, following early flowering and a warm summer, gained freshness and balance through autumn rains.
Terroir & Origin
The Côte d’Or forms the heart of Burgundy, where limestone soils and cool continental climate create ideal conditions for Chardonnay. Whilst Premier and Grand Crus occupy the top positions, regional appellations such as this offer an authentic gateway to Burgundian philosophy: precision rather than opulence, minerality rather than oak dominance. The grapes likely come from younger vines or less exposed parcels, which gives the wine its direct, unpretentious character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay reveals its true face in Burgundy – not as a creamy, vanilla-inflected canvas for projection, but as a precise terroir translator. With Charlopin Tissier, one can expect artisanal care: gentle pressing, possibly partial ageing in used barrels for texture without oak dominance, work with natural yeasts. The moderate alcohol content of 13% speaks to restraint and drinkability. This is not a wine seeking to impress, but one that brings authenticity and Burgundian clarity to the glass.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion for goat’s cheese, poached sole or chicken in cream sauce. The Burgundian acidity structure harmonises beautifully with mushroom risotto, scallops or simply with Comté. Also an elegant choice with Quiche Lorraine or crayfish salad – dishes that demand finesse rather than power.
