Wine Description for Bourgogne Aligoté AOC 2023 by Rémi Jobard

Colour & Appearance
Pale yellow with vibrant green reflections, crystal clear and radiant in the glass – a visual promise of freshness and vitality.
Nose
This Aligoté presents itself with life-affirming exuberance: apples, nectarines and mirabelle plums dominate with rich yellow fruit character, whilst delicate white flowers hover above. The aromatics feel fresh as morning dew, as though the grapes had just been picked in the mist – a bouquet that stirs anticipation.
Palate
The nose keeps its promise: juicy nectarines and mirabelle plums open the proceedings on the palate, then joyfully flanked by herbal bitter notes reminiscent of sage and tarragon. At 12% alcohol, the wine remains elegant and quaffable, yet shows considerable depth without becoming overly intellectual. An uncomplicated bringer of joy.
Finish
Fresh and herbaceous, with lingering stone fruit aromas and a stimulating acidity that demands the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
Rémi Jobard tends his vineyards in Meursault, the heartland of Burgundian Chardonnay production. Yet with this Aligoté, he demonstrates that this often underestimated grape variety can achieve impressive freshness and precision on Burgundy’s chalky soils.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A small revolution at Jobard: whilst his father sold Aligoté grapes to négociants, Rémi has recently begun vinifying them himself. The result justifies this decision impressively – here speaks a winemaker who has recognised the potential of this Burgundian heritage grape variety.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to oysters, scallops or goat’s cheese. Excellent too with fish in herb butter, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or a fresh summer salad with lemon dressing. The herbal spice makes it the perfect partner for Provençal cuisine as well.
Special Features
A wine that proves Aligoté is more than merely the base for Kir. Jobard’s independent vinification demonstrates the true class of this grape variety – authentic, vibrant and with Burgundian character.
