Wine description for Barolo DOCG Cerequio 2020 1500ml Magnum by Vietti
- Colour & Appearance
- Brilliant cherry red with delicate violet reflections and a lighter rim – a classic appearance for Nebbiolo from this prestigious vineyard site.
- Nose
- This Cerequio impresses with a deep, dark floral complexity. Hibiscus and violets dominate initially, before a multi-layered fruit palette of morello cherry, blackberry and plum unfolds behind them. Characteristic of this site are the earthy and vegetal nuances: beetroot is omnipresent, accompanied by celeriac, undergrowth and pine needles. Fine accents of pepper and juniper round off the aromatic profile.
- Palate
- Refined and precise, this 2020 presents itself with remarkable balance. The tannin displays the finest grain and duels on equal terms with a sharp yet noble acidity structure. Silky and velvety, the wine caresses the palate, remaining cool and dense throughout. The earthy and vegetal accents return, no component pushes to the fore – everything hovers in elegant harmony. The acid-driven fruit increases continuously, always under the cloak of cool elegance.
- Finish
- Long and sustained, with an ethereal note of eucalyptus in the aftertaste. The wine remains true to its inner calm and elegance right to the end.
- Terroir & Origin
- The MGA vineyard site Cerequio in the municipality of Barolo is considered one of the most significant in Piedmont. Located at 320 metres altitude with south-facing exposure, Vietti’s parcel comprises approximately one hectare. The predominant calcareous marl with clay-rich topsoil and the vine age of 37 years lend this wine its characteristic depth.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 30 September. Gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tank over approximately one month with continuous punching down of the cap. Subsequently nearly 30 months maturation in large oak barrels and additionally in barriques, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. Bottled without filtration for optimal bottle ageing.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Excellent with pan-roasted cod with beetroot cream and toasted hazelnuts, grilled lamb chops with artichoke hearts and olive-thyme sauce or warm bulgur with black olives and mint.
- Special Features
- Vietti is counted among the pioneers of site-specific Barolo and has been working with certified organic practices for years. The magnum bottle promises optimal ageing potential for this elegant 2020 vintage.
