The Universal glass is the all-rounder of the Denk’Art series: paper-thin, mouth-blown and of a lightness that is almost disconcerting upon first handling. In the hand, the delicate wall seems to dissolve – what matters is the direct contact with the wine. White wines reveal precision and coolness, whilst reds gain in finesse and definition. An instrument for all who take nuance seriously.

Terroir & Origin

It is crafted in the Waldviertel region of Lower Austria, where the art of glassmaking has been at home for centuries. The Zalto family looks back on six generations of glassblowing tradition and, together with wine merchant Hans Denk, took the step towards their own collection around two decades ago – the Denk’Art series has since become an insider tip among the international sommelier community.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Rather than grape varieties and maturation, geometry reigns supreme here: the angles of inclination of the glass walls follow precisely the angles of 24, 48 and 72 degrees – the axial tilt of the Earth. This ensures optimal movement of the wine and remarkable aromatic development. Each glass is individually mouth-blown, inspected by hand and signed. Despite a wall thickness of only about half a millimetre, it is surprisingly robust – and even dishwasher-safe.

Food Pairings

As a true universal glass, it suits everything from a crisp Riesling with asparagus to a finely structured Pinot Noir with duck breast. It excels with grilled fish, pasta with mushrooms or a simple board of raw-milk cheeses – wherever the wine is to take centre stage and the glass itself remains discreetly in the background.
