The Denk Art Decanter Axium 11 961 is not a wine in the traditional sense, but the ultimate instrument for consummate enjoyment. Designed using the expertise of Zalto and the wine merchant Hans Denk, this masterpiece is defined by its gossamer-thin, mouth-blown shape. The geometry is based on the tilt angles of the Earth (24, 48 and 72 degrees), enabling optimal aeration. In the hand, the decanter feels featherlight, yet reveals astonishing durability and substance, providing the finest wines with the perfect space to unfold.
Terroir & Origin
The roots of this object lie in Lower Austria’s Waldviertel, a region steeped in a centuries-old glassblowing tradition. Here, the Zalto family business unites traditional craftsmanship spanning six generations with contemporary design. The terroir of this artistry is the silence of the forests and a deep understanding of form, material and function, reflected in every individually hand-checked unique piece.
Grape Variety & Vinification
As a fine accessory, the Axium serves to elevate a wide variety of grape varieties. Whether full-bodied red wines or structured, mature white wines – the flat, wide bowl promotes circulation and brings out the multi-faceted layers of the wine. Every single piece is lead-free and mouth-blown by hand, individually inspected and signed. Despite the delicate wall thickness of around half a millimetre, the crystal glass proves to be dishwasher-safe and suitable for everyday use.
Food Pairings
As a functional vessel, the decanter showcases fine wines to accompany sophisticated menus. It pairs brilliantly with wines served alongside braised fillet of beef, pan-roasted duck breast or aged hard cheeses that require a little rest and oxygen before pouring.
