Wine Description for Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru „Les Petits Monts“ AOC 2023 by AS Sirugue-Noëllat

Character
A Premier Cru from one of Burgundy’s most prestigious vineyard sites, embodying the characteristic elegance and finesse of Vosne-Romanée. Les Petits Monts sits on the upper slope towards Flagey-Échezeaux and produces wines of remarkable structure and aromatic complexity. The Sirugue-Noëllat estate stands for traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with respectful stewardship of the terroir.
Terroir & Origin
The Les Petits Monts vineyard site extends over approximately 3.7 hectares on the higher reaches of the Côte de Nuits, where calcareous soils with marl and pebbles provide excellent drainage. The sloping position offers optimal sun exposure, whilst the altitude ensures cooler temperatures and extended ripening periods. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by a warm summer that produced healthy, fully ripe grapes – a vintage combining concentration with freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir achieves its noblest expression in Vosne-Romanée: silky, perfumed and of captivating complexity. Sirugue-Noëllat wines are vinified traditionally, typically with gentle extraction and ageing in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood kept moderate for Premier Crus to avoid masking the fruit and terroir characteristics. The moderate alcohol content of 13.5% vol. speaks to elegance rather than opulence – a classic Burgundian approach.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Premier Cru harmonises beautifully with rare-roasted entrecôte, game birds such as pheasant or quail, braised sweetbreads or Coq au Vin. Also an excellent choice with aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Brillat-Savarin. The wine’s structure accommodates rich but not overly heavy preparations with earthy components such as truffle or porcini mushrooms.
