Wine description for Into the light White Blaufränkisch 2023 by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Intense, cloudy golden yellow – a naturally turbid Blanc de Noirs that confidently displays its unfiltered origins.
Nose
After vigorous decanting, a captivating aromatic cosmos unfolds: vineyard peach, ripe pear and apricots meet plums and toasted notes of light nuts. Fresh yeast aromas lend complexity, whilst orange zest, anise and vanilla herald a sweetly creamy structure. Beneath it all runs a cool mineral tension.
Palate
Piquant and refreshing in equal measure, this unusual white wine from red grapes reveals itself. The creamy texture is threaded through with a fine tannin note that gives the wine grip and structure – a quality rarely found in white wines. Grapefruit and orange zest provide lively freshness, whilst the mineral vein carries through to the finish.
Finish
Remarkably long with sustained freshness and a fine phenolic character that lingers on the palate.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in limestone and slate by Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland – a combination that gives the wine its characteristic minerality and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested Blaufränkisch, vinified as Blanc de Noirs. Spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels and amphorae, bottled unfiltered and without added sulphites. An uncompromising natural approach that demands courage and skill.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A pronounced food wine that calls for salty and fruity contrasts: pan-fried char, scallops with mango salsa, vitello tonnato, goat’s cheese with fig mustard or Asian dishes with lemongrass.
Special Features
A radical interpretation of Blaufränkisch – an orange wine avant la lettre that playfully blurs the boundaries between red and white, between fruit and structure. Decant by all means!
