Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée „1859“ 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
Intensely luminous cherry red with a dark, concentrated core – a visual promise of depth and substance.
Nose
A sleeping giant that is not yet ready to fully reveal itself. The nose is dark and intense, characterised by morello cherry, sour cherry and blackberry. Delicate violet notes provide Burgundian elegance. Behind the youthful fruit abundance lie fine roasted aromas, the spice of juniper berries and bay leaves. Profound and subtle – never showy, but displaying aristocratic restraint.
Palate
The first sip confirms the impression of a wine that will reveal its true greatness only in years to come. The fruit glides gently across the palate, carried by a vibrant acidity framework that patiently waits in the background. The fine-grained tannin moves at a measured pace – perfectly integrated, never intrusive. The balance between fruit, acidity and structure is remarkable. At 12.5% alcohol, the elegance of the 2022 vintage shines through here.
Finish
In the aftertaste, fruit and spice come equally into their own. The wine flows elegantly away and lets its potential greatness shine through – a promise of years to come.
Terroir & Origin
The Cuvée „1859“ by Trapet Père & Fils is a tribute to the estate’s founding year. It combines various parcels from Gevrey-Chambertin and thus represents the essence of this legendary appellation in the Côte de Nuits.

100% Pinot Noir from biodynamically managed vineyards. The Trapet family works with the greatest respect for the terroir, minimal intervention in the cellar and relies on natural yeasts and moderate oak usage.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Roasted duck breast with cherry sauce, Coq au Vin, Bœuf Bourguignon, grilled venison loin or mature Époisses and other Burgundian cheese specialities.
Special Features
A wine that will reward patience. Accessible now, but with considerable ageing potential of 10-15 years. The Cuvée „1859“ is the flagship of the Trapet house and impressively demonstrates what classic Gevrey-Chambertin can be.
