Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée „1859“ 2021 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Cuvée „1859“ is a homage to the founding year of the Domaine and embodies the classic signature of Trapet Père & Fils: elegant, precise and profound. This Gevrey-Chambertin unites the characteristic mineral tension of the appellation with the refined fruit of Pinot Noir. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol content, this wine displays Burgundian finesse in its purest form – a wine that defines power through restraint.
Terroir & Origin
Gevrey-Chambertin is regarded as the most powerful appellation of the Côte de Nuits, characterised by calcareous clay soils and optimal south-east exposure. The Trapet family has managed their parcels for generations according to biodynamic principles and ranks among the pioneers of sustainable viticulture in Burgundy. The 2021 vintage, following a cool spring, brought a concentrated, fresh character with lively acidity – ideal for the house’s stylistic approach.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir unfolds its dark-fruited, spicy side on the soils of Gevrey-Chambertin with notes of black cherry, undergrowth and fine minerality. Trapet works with extended maceration, natural yeasts and deliberately exercises restraint in oak usage to preserve terroir typicity. The wines mature in traditional foudres and barriques, with new oak kept to a minimum. The result: wines of crystalline clarity that authentically reflect the village terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to classic French cuisine: excellent with Coq au Vin, braised rabbit with mushrooms or duck breast with cherries. The mineral structure harmonises beautifully with aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or a Brie de Meaux. Also an excellent choice with game dishes and beef fillet with truffle.
