Wine Description for Terroirs d’Ecueil Premier Cru Extra Brut by Lacourte-Godbillon

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous straw yellow – clear and brilliant in the glass, with fine, persistent mousse.
Nose
A Champagne that still holds a little back – and therein lies its charm. The nose reveals itself as delicate and elegant: floral aromas, fresh citrus and apple zest, tender red apple skin and a hint of almonds and nougat. Fine pastry notes join these, lending the whole a charming, almost nostalgic depth.
Palate
On the palate, the „Terroirs d’Ecueil“ confirms its character as a meticulously crafted, expressive Premier Cru. The fine mousse carries the fruit with elegance; juiciness, spice and a clear minerality give the wine definition and depth. The acidity is lively, yet never aggressive – it carries, without piercing. A Champagne with genuine inner tension and unmistakable provenance.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral and precise. The finish concludes with fine spice and freshness – clean, balanced, convincing.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come exclusively from the village of Écueil, a Premier Cru location in the Montagne de Reims. The vines stand on sandy and light clay soils – a terroir that imparts to Champagnes a distinctive, rather fine-grained minerality and freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The cuvée combines 85 % Pinot Noir and 15 % Chardonnay from 14 different base wines across three vintages: 75 % base wine 2022, supplemented by 25 % reserve wines from previous years. Disgorged on 5 May 2025 with a dosage of merely 2.5 g/l – consistently Extra Brut, without compromise.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with oysters and fine seafood platters, equally with sushi and sashimi, grilled turbot or simple lobster with sea salt butter. Also as a sophisticated aperitif, it is in a class of its own.
Special Features
Lacourte-Godbillon ranks among the most attentive Récoltants-Manipulants in Champagne. The „Terroirs d’Ecueil“ is an impressive plea for terroir transparency and artisanal integrity – a Champagne that makes provenance palpable, without shouting.
