Wine Description for M.A.M. Monts Âme-Migerats Premier Cru Brut Nature 2017 by Lacourte-Godbillon
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense straw yellow with a calm, relaxed mousse – a sign of the lengthy seven-year bottle maturation on the lees.
- Nose
- Impressively complex and noble. The Blanc de Noirs unfolds a fascinating aromatic spectrum: white and red berries, apple skin and cellar apple, along with lemon pips, zest and the juice of grapefruits. Mineral notes of oyster shell meet dark bread crust and fine pastry with nuts. The Pinot Noir origin shows itself subtly, yet present – everything appears discreet, elegant and perfectly balanced.
- Palate
- A Champagne of remarkable maturity and simultaneous freshness. Dense, juicy and elegant with appealing pressure and fine minerality. The mouth-watering salinity and zestiness make it the perfect food companion. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, raspberries, nectarines, blood oranges and lemon sorbet meld with a hint of chalkiness and limestone. The texture is creamy and substantial, the acidity clear and precise.
- Finish
- Splendidly long with persistent minerality and lemony freshness. The Brut Nature dosage (0 g/l) gives the terroir and fruit the final word.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from two parcels in the Premier Cru Les Mesneux in Ecueil, Montagne de Reims: Mont Âme with pure chalk soils and Migerats with loose clay soils. The 55-year-old vines from mass selection deliver concentrated, characterful grapes.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Pinot Noir, spontaneously fermented and aged in 300-litre barrels. Neither stabilised, filtered nor fined. Filled in July 2018, disgorged on 13 June 2025 – a craftily made Champagne with minimal intervention.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- The salinity and complexity make it ideal for oysters, scallops, roasted turbot or langoustines. Also an excellent choice with calf’s sweetbreads, morels in cream sauce or aged Comté.
- Special Features
- An authentic grower Champagne from one of the region’s most exciting producers. The Brut Nature vinification and seven-year lees ageing impressively demonstrate what Pinot Noir can achieve in Champagne.
