Wine description for Mi-Pentes Premier Cru Brut Nature L2022+Réserve by Lacourte-Godbillon

Colour & appearance
Pale straw yellow, bright and clear, with a fine, evenly rising mousse.
Nose
An inviting, uncomplicated bouquet in the best possible sense: lemon cream and preserved lemons, zest, along with almond and brioche. Behind them, herbs, stone and fresh as well as slightly soft orchard fruit – a nose that brings joy from the very first second.
Palate
Charming and sensual. A good acid drive propels the wine forward, while the minerality provides freshness and tension. The mousse is fine, the texture slightly yeasty and creamy. Despite zero dosage, a delicate, natural sweetness emerges, reminiscent of lemon sorbet – a Brut Nature without any harshness.
Finish
Taut, saline and cool, with a final echo of citrus zest and chalk. A Champagne that finishes dry and leaves the palate clean.
Terroir & origin
“Mi-Pente” refers to the mid-slope – usually the finest position on a hillside. The vines grow in Écueil, a Premier Cru in the heart of the Petite Montagne de Reims, on sand and light clay soils. Here, between limestone slopes and a small forest, Géraldine Lacourte and Richard Desvignes work as the ninth generation – Demeter-certified since 2020, with 85 per cent Pinot Noir across their 8.5 hectares.
Grape variety & vinification
100% Pinot Noir, blended from six base wines of two vintages: 70% from 2022, plus 30% reserve wines. The base wine matured for nine months in wooden casks, was bottled in July 2023 and disgorged on 21 January 2026 – with 0 g/l dosage.
Food recommendations
The combination of citrus freshness, creaminess and saline drive makes this Blanc de Noirs a versatile everyday wine: with oysters and sole, with goat’s cheese tart, with sushi or simply with roasted almonds to begin an evening.
Special features
It is rare for an accessible, inviting Champagne to manage entirely without dosage – here it owes this to the richness of old Pinot Noir vines and the reserve wines. And in the cellar rest casks made from oaks grown in their own forest in Écueil: wood from their own terroir, a rarity even in Burgundy.
