Mondeuse Noire

Mondeuse Noire grape – Historical watercolour from Viala & Vermorel Ampélographie (1901)

Also known as: Mondeuse, Persagne (historical)

A grape variety with character, originating from the Alps of Savoie where it has been cultivated for centuries. Mondeuse Noire has something raw, unpolished about it – dense tannic structure, peppery spice, dark fruit without sweetness. Not a grape for light summer evenings, but rather for cool mountain air and hearty cuisine.

In our range, this variety is exclusively represented by Orchis in Savoie – an estate that interprets the alpine identity of this ancient variety with an uncompromising hand.
