Mondeuse Noire

Mondeuse Noire is the red heart of the Savoy Alps. As an indigenous grape variety closely related to the Syrah family, it yields wines of striking individuality. Its profile is characterised by spicy aromas reminiscent of black pepper, dark forest berries and sour cherries, supported by an animating, cool acid structure and fine-grained tannins. In the glass, it often shows a transparent, luminous garnet red and an alpine clarity that pairs outstandingly with air-dried ham or hearty mountain cheese.

In the cellar of the Orchis estate, this grape is crafted into characterful wines with a strong sense of origin. While the Instant Présent Mondeuse emphasises the juicy, light-hearted side of the grape, the Quintessence de Mondeuse in the 2019 and 2020 vintages reveals, with concentrated cherry fruit and fine transparency, just how much alpine depth and ageing potential lie within this ancient variety.
