Barbarosa

Also known as: Barbarossa (alternative spelling)

One of the rarest Corsican grape varieties, barely heard of outside the island. Barbarosa has almost disappeared and is now only cultivated by individual winemakers who wish to preserve Corsica’s ampelographic heritage. The grape produces structured, herbal red wines with earthy depth – not fruit bombs, but wines with character.

Abbatucci is amongst the few estates that still cultivate this rarity. Jean-Charles Abbatucci works with old, ungrafted vines and demonstrates that Corsica has far more to offer than tourist beaches.
