Wine Description for Alte Rosso Blanc VdF 2019 by Abbatucci

Colour & Appearance
Pale, radiant straw gold – luminous and clear in the glass, with a freshness that already announces the wine’s character.
Nose
A fascinating aromatic panorama: the floral aromas of youth have given way to a complex maturity. Tart apples and a robust rural freshness dominate, accompanied by yellow gooseberries, peach and poached pears with delicate cinnamon notes. These are joined by grilled pineapple, pomelo and subtle hints of smoke and oriental spices – complex, distinctive, unmistakably Corsican.
Palate
The entry is fresh and saline at once, with a fine-grained texture and considerable power. Ripe apples and a hint of honey caress the palate, before lemon and orange zest with their fine bitter notes change direction. Then the minerality emerges – earth, flint, an iodine note that inevitably recalls the proximity of the Mediterranean.
Finish
Long, mineral and characterised by a subtly saline aftertaste. A finish that impressively underscores the Mediterranean origin of this extraordinary white wine.
Terroir & Origin
The Abbatucci estate is located in south-western Corsica, where the interplay of granite soils, intense sunshine and the cooling influence of the sea creates a unique framework for autochthonous grape varieties. Jean-Charles Abbatucci tends the vineyards biodynamically and protects them with fences against wild boar – a detail that underscores the deep respect for this extraordinary terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Vinified from the Barbarossa – a pink-skinned, almost forgotten rarity on Corsica. Jean-Charles Abbatucci produces a dry, characterful white wine from this autochthonous variety, erecting an impressive monument to it. With only 11.5% alcohol, the wine remains lean and elegant, without ever losing depth.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Excellent with grilled fish, seafood and Corsican charcuterie boards. Equally a revelation with goat’s cheese or a simple linguine alle vongole – dishes that reflect the saline minerality of the wine and showcase its freshness.
Special Features
One of the rarest white wines of Corsica – vinified from a grape variety that hardly any other winemaker in the world cultivates. With their unique collection of eighteen autochthonous varieties, the Abbatucci family preserves a living piece of Corsican wine history. This wine is not a product, it is a manifesto.
