Albanello

The historic white grape variety Albanello is deeply rooted in the hot south-east of Sicily. Once prized for powerful wines, today it reveals a structurally strong character. With its firm berry skins, it brings a fine phenolic grip and salty herbal spice to the glass, reminiscent of ripe apricots, bitter almonds and wild thyme. This inner density makes it an ideal partner for aromatic grape varieties, to which it lends grip and depth.

How harmoniously this interplay succeeds is demonstrated by the SP68 Bianco from Occhipinti. In this cuvée, the expressive fruit of Muscat blends with the off-dry, structuring nature of Albanello. Gentle maceration creates a vibrant, slightly cloudy wine that perfectly captures the calcareous soils of Sicily and pairs excellently with grilled fish or mature cheese.
