Wine description for Riesling Marienburg Kabinett VDP Grosse Lage 2024 by Clemens Busch

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with delicate golden, slightly greenish tinges – a shimmer that immediately announces freshness and youthful vitality.
Nose
Playful, delicate and dancing with lightness. White peach, juicy pear and lime zest form the bright fruit structure, accompanied by a hint of fresh pineapple. Citric herbs – lemon thyme, chervil, lemon balm – dance around the fruit with fine spice. A delicate impression of Sencha tea settles gently over it, lending the bouquet additional structure. The cool, stony foundation of the Marienburg remains ever present in the background.
Palate
Surprisingly gripping for a Kabinett – almost bone-dry in feel, despite 63.3 g/l residual sugar lurking in the glass. The explanation lies in the pronounced 9.2 g/l acidity, which keeps sweetness and fruit consistently in check and gives the wine a taut, delicate profile. Mineral slate character shimmers through again and again, accompanied by light tannins and fine bitter notes that lend the whole pleasant tension and astringency. Juicy, but never loud – a Kabinett that empties glasses.
Finish
Lingering, invigorating, slightly smoky. The acidity remains the leading voice and keeps the finale fresh and precise. At just 7.5% alcohol, a textbook example of modern, feather-light Mosel Kabinett style.
Terroir & Origin
The Marienburg in Pünderich – one of the most significant vineyard sites of the Terrace Mosel – combines expositions facing south, south-east and south-west. The dominant subsoil is grey slate, which gives the wine its cool minerality and stony depth. The vines were planted following land consolidation in 1989 and 1990.
Special Features
A Kabinett in the truest sense of the word: the seemingly irreconcilable paradox of high residual sweetness and high acidity resolves itself on the palate into pure drinking pleasure. No compromise, but mastery – Clemens Busch delivers with this 2024 vintage a modern, precise representative of a style that makes the Mosel unique.
