Wine Description for Riesling Marienburg Kabinett VDP Grosse Lage 2024 by Clemens Busch
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow with delicate golden, slightly greenish reflections – a youthful, shimmering presence in the glass.
- Nose
- Playful and light-footed, this Kabinett presents itself with filigree Riesling fruit: white peach, juicy pear, lime and lemon zest, along with tart lemon peel and a hint of freshly cut pineapple. Citric-herbal herbs such as wheatgrass, chervil and lemon thyme dance around the fruit, always bright and fresh. A fine impression of Sencha tea lends additional delicacy. The stony, cool foundation of the Marienburg makes this Kabinett a lean, precise representative – less fruit-driven, more characterised by freshness and dancing tension.
- Palate
- Here the true class reveals itself: surprisingly grippy and for the category „seemingly dry“. The pronounced acidity – a proud 9.2 g/l – pushes the 63.3 g/l residual sugar decidedly to the side and creates a taut, filigree overall picture. The fruit comes across as juicy, but never loud, whilst the mineral slate character keeps shining through. The acidity remains dominant: powerful yet moderately pitched, it provides high drinking pleasure and noticeable astringency, supported by light tannins and fine bitter notes. Clear, playful, slightly smoky – a Kabinett that empties glasses.
- Finish
- Persistently invigorating with stony precision and a fine, citric-herbal freshness that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Marienburg in Pünderich has various expositions – south, south-east and south-west. Dominant is the grey slate, which gives this wine its cool, mineral signature. The vines were planted after the land consolidation of 1989/90.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Riesling from various parcels of the Marienburg, selected for this traditionally lean Kabinett. At just 7.5% alcohol, a textbook example of modern, drinking-friendly Mosel Kabinett style.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Asian cuisine with light spice, sushi and sashimi, pan-fried scallops, goat’s cheese salad with herbs, blue trout, asparagus with lemon butter or simply as the perfect summer wine on the terrace.
- Special Features
- A distinctive, tart, feather-light Kabinett that unites both worlds: traditional elegance meets modern precision. The balance between high residual sweetness and equally high acidity is masterful – this is exactly how Mosel Kabinett should be.
