Wine Description for Riesling Jacobus Dry 2024 by Peter Jakob Kühn

Character
Peter Jakob Kühn is among the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Rheingau. The Jacobus is his entry-level wine, which clearly bears the estate’s signature: purist, vibrant and of impressive clarity. With a moderate 11.5% alcohol content, this Riesling embodies that lightness of touch which makes German Rieslings so coveted internationally – a counterpoint to over-extracted, high-alcohol wines.
Terroir & Origin
The Rheingau, situated between Wiesbaden and Rüdesheim on the northern bank of the Rhine, is one of Germany’s classic Riesling regions. Kühn’s vineyards benefit from the mineral slate soils and the cooling influence of the Rhine, which provides the characteristic acidity structure. Biodynamic management since 2004 has sustainably revitalised the soils and imparts the wines with a distinctive vitality and transparency.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Riesling here is experienced in its classically dry expression. Kühn works with spontaneous fermentation using wild yeasts, eschews fining and filtration, and allows the wine time to develop. This non-interventionist approach results in wines of great authenticity. The Jacobus combines the typical Riesling aromatics – citrus fruits, green apple, mineral notes – with a precise acidity that structures the wine without making it austere.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The vibrant acidity and moderate alcohol content make this Riesling an ideal food companion. Classically it harmonises with asparagus, fish dishes such as trout meunière or pike-perch, but also with goat’s cheese and Asian cuisine – such as Thai curries or sushi. Its freshness also makes it a perfect aperitif or companion to oysters and seafood.
