Wine Description for Monthelie 1er Cru Les Vignes-Rondes AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Transparent, luminous ruby red with youthful purple reflections – classically Burgundian in its clarity and elegance.
- Nose
- Sinewy, taut and of remarkable coolness. The aromatics consistently tend towards tart red fruit: sour cherry, redcurrant and raspberry dominate, accompanied by herbal notes such as blackberry leaf and redcurrant leaf. These are joined by delicate floral accents of violet, hollyhock and a hint of lavender. An athletic, extract-rich Pinot with firm structure.
- Palate
- Here the true class reveals itself: silky and supple, the wine flows across the palate, carried by vibrant freshness and a mature, perfectly integrated acidity. The refreshingly herbal tannin framework provides structure without dominating. The balance between high-frequency vibration and profound substance is flawless – a Pinot with pace and precision that nonetheless never loses its elegance.
- Finish
- Long, cool and of noble grip. The herbal fruit lingers, the mineral freshness remains present.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Vignes-Rondes is a comparatively cool Premier Cru vineyard site above Monthelie in mid-slope position. The typical limestone-clay soils impart the wine’s characteristic tension and minerality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% whole-bunch fermentation – a bold decision that pays dividends in the silky texture and cool aromatics. Maturation for one year in 600-litre Stockinger wooden vats rather than small barriques, allowing gentle oxygen exchange without oak dominance. Subsequently aged in stainless steel before bottling. Organically certified since 2008.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Saltimbocca of rabbit, pan-fried catfish on roasted root vegetables, braised heritage carrots with anise and fennel, but also with Coq au Vin, duck breast or aged Comté.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle promises optimal ageing conditions. Rémi Jobard belongs to the New School in Meursault and is renowned for his crystalline, mineral wines with fine elegance.
