Wine description for Particella 128 Spumante dell’Emilia IGT 2023 by Cinque Campi

Colour & appearance
Intense yellow with old-gold highlights and a lively mousse.
Nose
Joyful and radiant pale yellow: apple blossom and white lilac meet ripe pome fruit – yellow apples, juicy pears. Alongside orange blossom, fine herbal notes of chervil and borage. Light-hearted, buoyant, an aperitif bouquet par excellence.
Palate
Juicy and radiantly fruity, yet bone-dry. Delicate fruit as if dusted with icing sugar, flanked by gentle phenolics and an agile mousse. Vibrant, fruity and tart, a sparkling wine with rare drinkability.
Finish
Sprightly and persistent, with fine herbal spice and a mineral aftertaste – a finale that brings freshness and structure into harmony.
Terroir & origin
The vines grow on a Pliocene terrace at 200 metres above sea level at the foot of the Apennines. Soils of clay, sand and silt with a high silicate content lend the wine that mineral freshness which Vanni Nizzoli calls “the skeleton of the wine”.
Grape variety & vinification
Spergola, an indigenous grape variety of Emilia. After five days of skin contact, the must ferments spontaneously in stainless steel, matures there for six months, then spends twelve months sur lie in bottle. Bottled unfiltered, with minimal sulphur addition below 10 mg/l. Yields of just 1.5 kilograms per vine.
Food pairings
Perfect with Mortadella, Parmigiano Reggiano or roasted vegetables. Also a revelation on its own as an aperitif.
Special features
A Metodo Classico from Emilia that shows what Spergola can do: only 4,617 bottles and 140 magnums are produced each vintage. Hand-riddled, hand-disgorged – a sparkling wine with a clear signature and rare character.
