Colour & Appearance

Muted cherry red with vibrant, sparkling violet reflections – the colour already reveals the freshness and liveliness of this extraordinary Carignan.

Nose

A fascinating aromatic profile that unites wildness and charm: sour cherries, blackcurrant and lingonberries meet fig and elderflower. Mediterranean notes of black olive, juniper and clove join in, whilst leather, cocoa, fine tobacco and cedarwood lend the wine depth and complexity.

Palate

Soft, fruit-driven and of remarkable elegance. The earthy and mineral components settle pleasantly on the palate, lending the wine a dancing lightness. With just 11% alcohol, the Matassa Rouge displays impressive drinkability – refreshing, juicy and playful, without sacrificing structure or character.

From Roussillon, where Tom Lubbe with Matassa counts among the pioneers of the natural wine movement. The old Carignan vines benefit from the Mediterranean climate and the sparse, mineral-rich soils of the region, which lend the wine its characteristic earthiness.
