Wine description for Vacqueyras rouge AOC 2021 1500ml Magnum by d’Ouréa

Colour & Appearance
Medium ruby red, which already visually hints at the Grenache dominance and elegant character of this Vacqueyras.
Nose
An intoxicating bouquet of ripe raspberries, wild strawberries and a whisper of fig. These are joined by liquorice, Provençal herbs, a touch of earth and wild rose. The uncrushed grapes bring a characteristic stem note – a deliberate stylistic choice by Adrien Roustan that lends the wine additional complexity.
Palate
A true charmer. The ancient Grenache vines (planted 1950) bestow this wine with depth, harmony and remarkable minerality. Despite its substance, the Vacqueyras feels almost lean – in the best sense: it glides smoothly across the palate, carried by fine berry fruit and extraordinarily silky tannins. The ripe yet vibrant acidity and the freshness of the stems ensure drinkability and elegance.
Finish
Persistent and characterised by fine fruit, with a lingering note of herbs and mineral nuances.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the finest parcels in the Hautes Garrigues (red clay-limestone) and the Pendants (blue and yellow marl). Each terroir contributes its part: the Garrigues impart finesse and minerality, the Pendants strength and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% each Cinsault, Carignan and Mourvèdre. The grapes were uncrushed, then crushed and fermented quickly. Aged in concrete – a method that preserves fruit clarity and freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Chicken à la Provençale, lamb rack with white beans and confit tomatoes, tomato tarte tatin. The wine harmonises beautifully with the Mediterranean cuisine of its homeland.
Special Features
The magnum bottle (1500ml) guarantees optimal ageing. Adrien Roustan’s interpretation of the Vacqueyras terroir displays a distinctly different character from his Gigondas – more fruit-focused, more charming, with grace and elegance rather than power and intensity.
