Wine information
The Marsannay La Combe du Pré has its roots in the 4.3 hectare La Combe du Pré vineyard. This north-facing site is located at about 300 metres and is one of the coldest in the commune, close to the forest de la Combe du Pré. Red wine is grown on about 3.55 hectares of this area, while the remaining part is dedicated to rosé wines. Compared to Gevrey-Chambertin, the grapes here are usually ripe a week later. The share cultivated by the Galeyrand estate is 0.5 hectares and the work in the vineyard is mainly organic, partly biodynamic and requires a lot of manual labour. The Pinot Noir is fermented mainly in tanks after the stems have been removed, and the ageing itself takes place over twelve months in used oak barrels with minimal new wood. Only original indigenous yeasts are used, with no use of fining agents, enzymes and only gentle filtration. Sulphur dioxide is not used at all or only very sparingly.
Colour scheme
Radiant and deep ruby red.
Aroma
This red Marsannay from La Combe du Pré reveals itself with a powerful aroma of juicy young cherries, complemented by subtle notes of wood and caramel. The caramel brings a pleasant warmth that acts as a counterpart to the dominantly fresh aspects of this wine.
Taste
This Pinot Noir presents itself juicy, dynamic and fresh on the palate, with a strong shot of tangy acidity that perfectly suits this generous, juicy and elegant vintage. The dark fruit is youthful and juicy, while the tannin is fine and supple. The wine radiates a lot of energy and a pleasant spiciness while retaining its elegant character traits.
Food recommendations
A fresh French baguette with air-dried ham or Eggs Benedict with braised mushrooms and a creamy Hollandaise sauce harmonise perfectly with this wine. A steamed skrei with light mustard sauce, fried Brussels sprouts and roast potatoes or juicy beef ribs with a spicy Roquefort sauce also make a delicious companion.
