Wine description for Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge AOC 2019 1500ml Magnum by Marcoux
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep, youthful dark red with luminous ruby rim – a wine that displays its power already in the glass.
- Nose
- Impressive density and complexity: black figs, wild blackberries and sweet raspberries meld with blood oranges. These are joined by violets, Provence herbs, fresh leather and a hint of pepper. As air exposure increases, a fascinating depth and remarkable purity reveal themselves – an aromatic profile that invites lingering.
- Palate
- Immediately mouth-filling with silky, almost luxurious texture. The impressive concentration never feels heavy or aggressive, but unfolds with elegant opulence. Red berries in sweet abundance coat the palate, whilst ripe, noble tannins with a touch of cocoa provide structure. The fine-grained minerality lends the wine remarkable dynamism and length.
- Finish
- Long, precise and of great persistence. The balance between fruit, structure and minerality promises excellent ageing potential over many years.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Armenier family manages 13 parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with different soil types: the legendary rolled pebbles on clay-rich, water-retaining subsoil, reddish sandstone, colluvial sediments and tension-giving limestone soils from the Cretaceous period. This diversity is reflected in the wine’s complexity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Grenache Noir dominates the cuvée, complemented by Mourvèdre, Syrah and some Cinsault. Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, four to five weeks of skin contact. Ageing takes place over 18 months in concrete tanks, supplemented by some large wooden vats and older 350-litre barrels – a method that respects both fruit and terroir equally.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Gardiane de Taureau (Camargue bull stew), wild boar terrine with black truffles, braised lamb shoulder or a classic Tian de légumes à la provençale. The magnum bottle makes this wine an ideal companion for festive occasions.
- Special Features
- At 16% ABV, powerful yet never tasting alcoholic. The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions for decades to come.
