Wine Description for Tannenberg DOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by Manincor
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow with vibrant green reflections – youthful, clear and of striking brilliance.
- Nose
- A Sauvignon Blanc that leaves no doubt about its identity. The nose is precise and disciplined: fully ripe yellow fruit meets tropical notes of passion fruit and star fruit, underpinned by freshly mown grass and a distinctive herbal play of chervil, borage and lemon balm. A distinctive grapefruit zest bitterness and fine salinity lend depth and seriousness to the bouquet.
- Palate
- The attack is fruity-herbal and juicy, with an extract reminiscent of a cool mountain stream – immediate, invigorating, precise. Grapefruit and ripe yellow fruit dominate, accompanied by fine herbal notes of lemon balm and ground elder. The phenolics are pleasantly soft, never harsh.
- Finish
- Long, saline-herbal in definition and carried by a vibrant fresh acidity that elegantly spans the entire palate. The finish is cool, mineral and persistent – a wine that lingers long.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the renowned Terlan single vineyard site Lieben Aich – a south-west facing slope at 300 metres above sea level with soils of sandy loam on weathered porphyry. This volcanic substrate is the source of the wine’s distinctive minerality and saline depth.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Sauvignon Blanc in its alpine, South Tyrolean expression. After destemming, the grapes underwent a twelve-hour skin contact period – a decisive step for phenolic structure and aromatic complexity. Subsequently spontaneous fermentation in wood, followed by nine months of ageing on fine lees. The result: a wine with weight, texture and character.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Ideal with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, grilled turbot or goat’s cheese. Excellent also with Asian cuisine with herbs and citrus or a classic Vitello Tonnato.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle (1500 ml) is more than just a format for a wine of this structure and complexity – it is a promise. The slower maturation process in the larger bottle will grant the Tannenberg additional years and further unfold its mineral depth. A Sauvignon for connoisseurs, which prioritises substance over approachability.
