Wine Description for Tannenberg DOC 2024 by Manincor

Colour & Appearance
Pale, sparkling golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a visual promise of freshness and precision.
Nose
This Sauvignon Blanc from South Tyrol impresses with a multi-layered aromatic profile: Initially, classic notes of grapefruit, elderflower and elderwood dominate. With air contact, more exotic facets unfold – mango, papaya and green gooseberry join in. What is remarkable, however, is the striking minerality, reminiscent of wet stone, which lends the wine a cool, almost austere elegance. An invigorating nose with brilliant freshness.
Palate
On the palate, Tannenberg reveals its true personality: mineral, stony, with palpable grip. The saline minerality combines with a stimulating acidity structure and a subtle yet present tannin, which gives the wine unusual texture and substance. Pleasantly dry, with intense presence on the tongue – this is no charming fruit cocktail, but a serious, characterful white wine with backbone.
Finish
Long-lasting and mineral, with saline freshness that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Lieben Aich vineyard site in Terlan at 300 metres elevation offers ideal conditions: a south-west-facing slope with mild, airy microclimate and water-permeable, sandy loam on porphyry weathered rock – according to the winery, the soil with the greatest mineral structure in the estate. This geological character is clearly perceptible in the glass.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc, vinified with artisanal ambition: twelve hours of skin contact for extraction of aroma and structure, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden barrel, ten months ageing on fine lees. This vinification explains the unusual texture and complexity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The saline, mineral character and present acidity predestine this wine for hearty preparations: grilled sea bass, scallops, calf’s sweetbread, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or intense vegetable dishes such as sautéed fennel or artichokes.
Special Characteristics
A Sauvignon Blanc with unusual depth and texture – more Chablis than Marlborough, with a tannin otherwise absent in white wines of this grape variety. A mineral statement from South Tyrol.
