Wine Description for Majas Rouge IGP 2024 by Majas

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, transparent ruby red with youthful freshness – the clarity in the glass already reveals the style: nothing has been softened or concealed here.
Nose
Crystalline and precise, the wine opens with crisp cherries, raspberries and blackberries. These are joined by notes of garrigue, Provençal herbs and a mineral hint of stone – Mediterranean yet remarkably cool in character.
Palate
On the palate, the true finesse of this Roussillon red wine reveals itself: crystalline, juicy and of remarkable energy. The tannins are gently refined, the acidity clear and tactile. With just 12% alcohol, the wine feels light-footed and vibrant – one would sooner place it in the cooler north than in the deep south of France.
Finish
Fresh and mineral with lingering fruit and fine herbal spice.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard near Caudiès de Fenouillèdes in Roussillon unites history and modernity: some vines date from the 1890s, most were planted in the 1980s. Organically farmed from the outset, clay, limestone and slate shape the character of this distinctive terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A classic cuvée of 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan, hand-harvested at moderate yields of 40 hl/ha. After destemming, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel followed by maturation in steel tank. Bottled unfiltered and unfined with minimal sulphur – pure expression of fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An uncomplicated everyday wine with style: perfect with grilled vegetables, ratatouille, charcuterie, pasta with tomato sauce or simply with pizza. Also a pleasure on its own.
Special Characteristics
Remarkable is the lightness and freshness despite its southern origin – a modern, naturally vinified red wine that prioritises finesse over power.
