Wine description for 4 éléments Pinot Noir La Perthe Extra Brut 2019 by Huré Frères

Character
Huré Frères belong to those artisanal Champagne producers who have redefined the rules of the region in recent years. This Extra Brut from pure Pinot Noir from the single vineyard site La Perthe embodies an uncompromising philosophy: minimal dosage, maximum expression of terroir. With just 12% alcohol and minimal residual sweetness, this is a purist, tension-filled Champagne that prioritises substance over flattery.
Terroir & Origin
The Maison Huré Frères manages vineyards in the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir traditionally thrives on chalky soils. La Perthe is a specific parcel whose character is concentrated and reflected in this vintage Champagne. The single vineyard philosophy – underscored here by the designation „4 éléments“ – represents a new approach in Champagne: away from the art of blending, towards precise designation of origin. The 2019 vintage brought balanced conditions to Champagne with good ripeness whilst retaining freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A single varietal Pinot Noir in Champagne is already a statement. Huré Frères work with extended lees ageing and minimal sulphur additions, often fermented in wooden barrels. The Extra Brut maturation with less than 6 grams of residual sugar per litre allows the wine to reveal its true nature: structured, mineral, complex. Here it is not creamy approachability that takes centre stage, but the Burgundian soul of Pinot Noir – earthy, precise, with depth.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This style of Champagne demands substantial accompaniment: smoked fish, oysters, mushroom dishes or poultry with dark sauce. The low dosage makes it an ideal companion for Asian cuisine or aged Comté. A Champagne for the dining table, not for the reception.
