Colour & Appearance

Luminous ruby red with pomegranate reflections, medium colour intensity that already announces the elegance and finesse of this Blaufränkisch. Crystal clear in the glass.

Nose

Seductively open and expressive: dark cherries and blackberries in the foreground, underpinned by violets and fine herbal notes. Added to this are hints of white pepper, graphite and a subtle spice reminiscent of the great Syrahs of the Northern Rhône. With air, a fascinating minerality and discreet smoky notes develop.

Palate

Precise and focused with wonderful juiciness. The red fruit shows itself concentrated but never jammy – sour cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry dance elegantly across the palate. The tannins are fine-grained and perfectly integrated, the vibrant acidity lends the wine tension and drinkability. Moderate 13% alcohol ensures balance and lightness of foot. Medium body with impressive depth.

Finish

Long, cool and mineral with lingering cherry notes and a hint of liquorice. The freshness remains intact to the end – a wine that invites you to take the next sip.

Terroir & Origin

The Ried Maissner in Lutzmannsburg on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl delivers classic Mittelburgenland Blaufränkisch. The soils of slate and loam shape the wine’s characteristic minerality and structure.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Blaufränkisch, vinified in the style of Roland Velich: careful extraction, avoidance of over-extraction, natural yeasts. Ageing takes place in large wooden barrels, which give the wine structure without masking it with oak aromas.

Roasted duck, venison loin with lingonberries, beef fillet, Coq au Vin, grilled vegetables, spicy mountain cheese or mushroom risotto.
