Wine description for Llum Côtes Catalanes blanc IGP 2023 by Roc des Anges

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow in the glass – the name „Llum“ (Light) is programme. Clear and inviting.
Nose
A seductive interplay of aromas between south and north: white and yellow flowers meet raspberries and red apple, alongside lemon, grapefruit and pineapple. Behind this, mineral notes of wet stone, brine and a hint of flint. A trace of tonic water lends the bouquet additional freshness.
Palate
Here Marjorie Gallet’s signature shines through: juicy, elegant and with Burgundian finesse, yet with southern French character. Ripe pear, pineapple and citrus notes dominate the white-fleshed fruit. The acidity is the backbone of this wine – agile, forceful and intense, yet perfectly integrated. The oak influence remains discreet in the background, but lends structure and depth. A wine of remarkable balance.
Finish
Medium to long, with lingering freshness and mineral aftertaste. The acidity carries far without being obtrusive.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in the Eastern Pyrenean Foothills on a fascinating blend of slate, ochre-coloured clay and limestone in the terraces of the Agly river. Vines up to 100 years old lend the wine depth and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Cuvée from Grenache gris, Grenache blanc and Macabeu, complemented by small portions of Carignan gris, Carignan blanc and Malvoisie. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing in used barriques and tonneaux – a vinification that shows respect for the fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pairs excellently with grilled fish, scallops, langoustines or seafood with lemon butter. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese, poultry in light sauce or herb risotto.
Special Features
This wine is a counterpoint to heavy, ponderous southern French wines. Marjorie Gallet succeeds in bringing Burgundian elegance to Roussillon – with indigenous varieties and just 12% alcohol. A shining proof that Roussillon can also deliver finesse.
