Wine Description for Le Triumvirat, Brut Nature 2009 by Tarlant
Colour & Appearance
Brilliant golden yellow with fine, persistent strings of pearls, reflecting the considerable maturity on the lees. The transparency at the glass rim reveals the precision of the terroir.
Nose
A fascinating bouquet of remarkable complexity. Roasted hazelnuts and brioche meld with citrus peel and a hint of flint – a direct translation of the limestone, sand and flint subsoils of the three lieu-dits in Œuilly. With air contact, ripe yellow fruits and subtle oxidative notes develop, bearing witness to the extended bottle maturation. With air contact, mature yellow fruits and subtle oxidative notes emerge, testament to the long bottle ageing.
Palate
On the palate, the true mastery of this Champagne reveals itself. Knife-sharp and precise, with breathtaking tension between the ripe fruit of the warm 2009 vintage and the crystalline acidity structure. The zero dosage underscores the purity of expression. The texture is silky yet simultaneously mineral and gripping – a paradox that only great terroir Champagnes achieve. The finish is impressively long, with saline notes and a subtle bitterness reminiscent of almonds.
General Information
This Champagne is a triumvirate in the truest sense – a harmonious fusion of three unique terroirs from Œuilly in the Vallée de la Marne. The 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir were farmed with minimal intervention, spontaneously fermented and aged for 10 months in Burgundian oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation. Following bottling in May 2010, the wine matured for an impressive 12 years and 9 months on the lees before being disgorged in January 2023.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The intensity and complexity of this Champagne demands discerning companions. Excellent with aged Comté, pan-seared scallops with hazelnut butter or porcini risotto. The saline minerality pairs perfectly with oysters or caviar.
Special Characteristics
With only 2,800 bottles produced, this Champagne is a rarity. The exceptionally long lees ageing and zero dosage make it an uncompromising expression of the terroir and the 2009 vintage. A Champagne for connoisseurs, reflecting the signature of the Tarlant family and their deep connection to the land. A wine that carries time within it and still has years of development ahead.
