Wine Description for Clos du Bourg Moelleux 1ère Trie 2018 by Huet
- Colour & Appearance
- A sparkling, dense golden yellow of great viscosity.
- Nose
- Initially characterised by a dense, almost stony coolness that demands a little patience. With air, a fascinating complexity reveals itself: ripe quince, quince jelly and juicy orange marry with orange zest and warm baked apple. Behind this, fine nuances of acacia honey, creamy caramel, cinnamon and delicate white chocolate emerge, elegantly rounded off by fresh ginger and elderflower.
- Palate
- Silky, opulent and with a fine sweetness, this Chenin Blanc glides across the tongue. Its lively, vibrant acidity masterfully balances the rich, melting texture, while fine tannins and a subtle saltiness provide immense clarity and structure. On the palate, the flavour of freshly cooked apple purée unfolds. Despite its density, this noble sweet nectar never feels heavy or cloying, but incredibly stimulating, balanced and enticing.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Clos du Bourg is considered one of the most precious vineyard sites in Vouvray in the Loire. The vines grow on poor, stony soils of shallow clay over a massive foundation of limestone. The excellent south-facing exposure captures the sunlight perfectly, while the nearby river provides the grapes with gentle morning dew.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chenin Blanc, the “grape of the moonlight”. Domaine Huet has been working biodynamically since the late 1980s and has been Demeter-certified since 1993. The maturation of this off-dry masterpiece takes place under the direction of cellar master Benjamin Joliveau in the cool, historic tuffeau stone cellars of the estate.
- Food Pairings
- A magnificent partner for pan-fried black pudding with glazed apple wedges on potato rösti. Equally excellent with classic desserts such as a warm Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream or a delicate mille-feuille of wild berries and vanilla cream.
- Special Features
- A rare selection (“1ère Trie”) that is only produced in exceptional years when nature grants perfect conditions for noble rot. A monument for the cellar that can endure for decades. For drinking now, it is highly recommended to decant the wine and not to serve it too cold.
