Wine Description for Clos du Bourg Moelleux 1ère Trie 2016 from Huet

Colour & Appearance
A deep, rich golden yellow in the glass.
Nose
The aromatics are strikingly nuanced and complex. A subtly charming influence of botrytis brings notes of honeycomb and beeswax, underpinned by dried pears, apple rings, candied orange peel and candied lemon peel. Underlying these are roasted, salted nuts, Montélimar nougat, as well as fine nuances of aniseed, saffron and pale tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, this Chenin Blanc reveals a gripping phenolic structure and ripe, polished tannins that lend structure to the sweetness and viscosity. A piquant, vibrant acidity drives flavours of bergamot, allspice and clove across the tongue with tremendous momentum.
Finish
A taut, almost epoch-making finish of enormous length, leaving sweetness, spice and fresh acidity in perfect balance.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos du Bourg is considered one of the most prized single vineyards in Vouvray in the Loire Valley. Its lean, stony soils combine calcareous clay with mineral depth. Domaine Huet has been working here according to strict biodynamic principles since 1993, fully Demeter-certified.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chenin Blanc. The sweet “Moelleux 1ère Trie” is produced exclusively in exceptional years through a selective hand harvest of the finest, noble-rotted grapes. Maturation takes place patiently in the estate’s cool, historic tuffeau caves.
Food Pairings
Outstanding with dark nut bread topped with blue cheese and spiced apricot chutney, fresh goat’s cheese truffles with salted walnut caramel, or a classic poultry liver pâté with pistachios and quince chutney.
Key Features
The synthesis of concentrated sweetness, a lively backbone and Domaine Huet’s uncompromising Demeter biodynamics turns this Chenin Blanc into a monument with epic ageing potential.
