Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Pale straw yellow with delicate, bright reflections – clear, unhurried, a glass of quiet elegance.
Nose
Fragrant and refined: daisy and linden blossom run through the glass as a gentle floral thread. Alongside this, bright fruit – freshly sliced pear, white peach, a hint of apricot and cantaloupe melon. Behind it, nutty notes of almond and macadamia, a touch of undergrowth and the green spiciness of marjoram and chervil. Nothing pushes forward; everything remains calm and balanced.
Palate
Slender, light-footed, with a charming flow. The bright fruit stays delicate, the floral side resonates alongside it. What is lovely is the crisp, finely bitter edge that gives the wine grip and drive. It does not seek to impress with power – its strength lies in its nonchalance.
Finish
Bright, light and clear: fine fruit, floral hints, a delicately crisp, saline-tinged finale.
Terroir & origin
Manincor is situated in Kaltern on Lake Kaltern; the historic estate has stood on the Brenner road for over 400 years. La Manina is the entry-level white wine of the Hand line: from young vines, including sites outside the estate, complemented by carefully selected purchased grapes – yet crafted with the same care as the house’s great single-vineyard wines.
Grape varieties & vinification
A cuvée of Weißburgunder (50 %), Chardonnay (30 %) and Sauvignon Blanc (20 %). Six hours of skin contact in the press for aroma and grip, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without sulphur on the grapes or must. Ageing partly in large wooden casks, partly in stainless steel, six months on the fine lees. Dry, 12.5% vol.
Food recommendations
An uncomplicated companion for balmy evenings: with asparagus with butter and Parmesan, grilled fish, South Tyrolean dumplings or a simple caprese with ripe tomatoes. Also perfectly at home on its own as an aperitif.
Special features
The little sister of the top wines – vinified according to the very principles Manincor stands for: the entire estate has been Demeter-certified since 2009, and has been farmed biodynamically since 2005. You can taste this in its precision and cool herbal spiciness. Full of drinking pleasure now, yet with an astonishing four to six years of ageing potential – depth at the entry-level price of the house philosophy.
