Wine Description for L d’Or AOP 2022 by Luneau-Papin
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that already promises substance and maturity in the glass.
- Nose
- Seductively complex: fine yeast notes and crème meet yellow apples, yellow plums and quince. These are joined by white peach, a hint of blackcurrant, candied lemon and a pronounced saline minerality. The elegance actually recalls an Alsatian Riesling from granite soils – a rare quality for Muscadet.
- Palate
- Here the true class reveals itself: the ripe yellow fruit is woven through with saline and piquant, herbal zest notes. The acidity begins round and accessible, then increasingly gains in dynamism and is carried by a vibrant minerality – typical of the granite soils. Fine-boned, precise, with remarkable length.
- Finish
- Long, saline-mineral, with sustained freshness. The zesty notes linger and leave an appetising, almost electrifying impression.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vineyard in Vallet, planted in 1984, unites two geological worlds: in the upper part Landreau granite, in the lower gneiss with mica inclusions from the Armorican Massif. This mineral diversity decisively shapes the character of the wine and gives it its extraordinary tension.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Melon de Bourgogne, hand-harvested and pneumatically pressed. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, followed by seven months of ageing on the lees in underground, glass-lined cement vats. No racking until bottling – a purist vinification that gives maximum expression to the terroir.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Classically with oysters and seafood, but also with grilled sea bass, scallops, goat’s cheese or roasted poultry with lemon. The minerality harmonises beautifully with sushi and ceviche.
- Special Features
- A Muscadet with genuine ageing potential – at least a decade. The „L d’Or“ proves that this often underestimated appellation is capable of great finesse when terroir and craftsmanship come together.
