Wine Description for Éclats de Meulière Extra Brut V22/21 by Jeaunaux-Robin

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with fine, lively perlage that rises elegantly in the glass.
Nose
A multi-layered bouquet unfolds with delicate notes of vanilla kipferl and brioche, which indicate fine yeast maturation. Behind these, ripe aromas of apples and pears develop, accentuated by nuances of apricot and passion fruit. Subtle hints of herbs and flint lend the Champagne additional complexity and depth.
Palate
On the palate, the Éclats de Meulière displays juicy and fine-fruited character. Pome fruit dominates, accompanied by fresh notes of pomegranate and lingonberry, whilst a subtle exotic fruitiness provides tension. The spontaneous fermentation brings characteristic notes of bread crust and blonde tobacco. A chalky, vibrant minerality runs through the wine, carried by lively perlage.
Finish
Harmoniously rounded and refreshing, with pronounced salinity that lends length and precision to the finale. The mineral tension remains sustainably present.
Terroir & Origin
Hailing from the Coteaux du Petit Morin in the Côte de Sézanne, this Champagne benefits from chalky and clayey soils with embedded flint. The vines, approximately 45 years old, lend the wine depth and concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
An unusual assemblage of 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay from the vintages 2021 and 2022. The spontaneously fermented juices were aged one quarter in fuder, three quarters in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation was deliberately avoided, which emphasises freshness. With a minimal dosage of 4.5 g/l, the Champagne presents itself clear and straightforward. Disgorged in October 2024.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with oysters, scallops, ceviche or pan-fried monkfish. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese, Comté or an autumnal mushroom risotto.
Special Features
An authentic grower Champagne that bears the hallmark of Jeaunaux-Robin: terroir-driven, vinified with minimal intervention and with respect for the wine’s natural development.
