  • 🎨 Colour: Pale, delicate yellow with green reflections and a fine mousse.
  • 👃 Aroma: Delicate notes of pear, honeydew melon and quince, complemented by lime, lemongrass and fresh ginger – underpinned by a cool minerality.
  • 👅 Palate: Juicy and intense with a saline streak; the fine mousse dances across the tongue, crystalline and crystal-clear in expression.
  • 🎭 Character: Precise, invigorating and of great finesse – a clear, straightforward Chouilly character rather than opulent richness.

  • ✨ Special features: 100% Chardonnay from vines over 44 years old on pure chalk soils; ageing consistently in stainless steel rather than wooden casks for maximum purity, low dosage of 6 g/l, around two years on the lees until disgorgement in July 2025 – fantastic value for money.

Wine description for Brut Réserve 2022+Res. Blanc de Blancs Chouilly Grand Cru by Vazart-Coquart & Fils

Colour & appearance
Pale, delicate yellow with green reflections and a fine, lively mousse.
Nose
Finesse over power: pear, honeydew melon and quince, alongside lime, lemongrass and a hint of fresh ginger. Beneath lies a cool, chalky minerality reminiscent of damp chalk stone.
Palate
Juicy yet precise, with a salty streak and dancing carbonation. Crystalline, crystal-clear, invigorating – a Blanc de Blancs that displays intensity without any heaviness.
Finish
Long, taut and mineral-driven, with an aftertaste of citrus and salt that leaves the mouth feeling refreshed.
Terroir & origin
Chouilly, the northernmost Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs, is considered pure Chardonnay country – nowhere else is the chalk purer. Vazart-Coquart, based in the village’s red brick house since 1865 and today run by Jean-Pierre and Caroline Vazart in the third generation, cultivates 30 parcels with vines averaging 44 years old, rooted deep in the limestone. Peter Liem calls the house the most significant grower Champagne producer in the village.
Grape variety & vinification
100% Chardonnay from a mosaic of micro-terroirs. The assemblage is based 66% on the 2022 vintage, complemented by reserve wines; bottled in May 2023, disgorged in July 2025. Ageing takes place in stainless steel – deliberately without wood, so that the terroir speaks rather than the cask. The dosage of 6 g/l remains restrained and preserves the cool precision.
Food recommendations
A Champagne for the table: oysters, sea bream ceviche, fresh goat’s cheese or grilled calamari with lemon. Also a delight with sushi and delicate crudités.
Special features
The resolve behind this wine is remarkable: for the conversion to organic viticulture, Jean-Pierre Vazart gave up the almost 40-year-old Réserve Perpétuelle in 2020 – the organic guidelines did not permit blending it with conventional reserves. As early as 2012, the estate was only the third in France to obtain HVE certification. In terms of flavour, the Brut Réserve proves that quality remained unaffected: Grand Cru Chardonnay with genuine depth at a remarkably fair price.
