Wine description for Iglesia Vella Côtes Catalanes blanc IGP 2021 by Roc des Anges

Colour & Appearance
Pale lemon yellow with bright, almost translucent reflections – the colour already reveals the cool elegance of this white wine from sun-blessed Roussillon.
Nose
An olfactory direct flight to the Mediterranean. Pine groves, cypress and the typical garrigue with rosemary, thyme and lavender dominate impressively. Beneath shimmer fine notes of limestone, chalk and a dusty minerality. Restrained yellow fruit – mirabelle plum, kaffir lime, even hints of butternut squash – is completed by almond blossom and chopped nuts. Complex, multifaceted, fascinating.
Palate
Here Roc des Anges demonstrates its mastery: despite Mediterranean heat, radical freshness and elegance emerge. A mineral film settles immediately on the palate, stony precision carries fruit and spice across the tongue for minutes. The cooling Tramontane winds leave their traces in the form of vibrant tension. Demanding, exhilarating, impressive – a wine with character and backbone.
Finish
Long-lasting with returning yellow fruit, which is promptly taken over by the Mediterranean herbs. The slate minerality remains present right to the end and lends the wine its characteristic tension.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Iglesia Vella (Catalan for „old church“) lies near a historic church on hard slate rock, which is clearly reflected in the texture and structure of the wine. A terroir that guarantees precision and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Grenache Gris from vines planted in 1954 – old vines that deliver concentration and depth without losing freshness. At just 12.5% alcohol, a masterclass in Mediterranean elegance.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Roasted skate wing with creamy kohlrabi and sea beans, roast beef with remoulade sauce and rosemary potatoes or grilled corn-fed chicken with roasted corn on the cob and coleslaw. The wine pairs well with both maritime and earthy, herb-spiced cuisine.
Special Features
A white wine that proves Roussillon can do far more than opulent red wines. Precision instead of power, elegance instead of force – and entirely authentic Mediterranean in character.
