Wine Description for Côtes du Jura Chardonnay „La Grande Chaude“ 2023 from Domaine Grand

Colour & Appearance
Medium golden yellow, clear and luminous in the glass.
Nose
Precise and spicy, this Jura Chardonnay presents itself with pronounced citrus notes of lemon and lime zest. Behind these unfold green apples and pears, accompanied by a fine herbal note of sage and a distinct mineral component that recalls wet stone. The nose is zesty and lively – typical of the cool elegance of the Jura.
Palate
On the palate, the wine displays impressive clarity and freshness, combined with a slightly silky texture that gives the wine excellent drinkability. The attack brings ripe white-fleshed fruit with citric accents, before the aromatics open up: undergrowth, stoniness and subtle caramel notes from barrel ageing blend in harmoniously. This Chardonnay possesses real substance and volume, feels powerful without being heavy, and leaves a pleasant warmth on the palate.
Finish
Good length with a fine salinity that perfectly balances the wine and invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site La Grande Chaude in the Jura provides the grapes for this characterful Chardonnay. The limestone-rich soils of the region significantly shape the mineral structure and freshness of the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented in oak barrels after destemming. Ageing took place in multi-year oak barrels, which lend complexity to the wine without dominating it. A classic Jura approach that avoids oxidation and preserves fruit clarity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with poultry in cream sauce, grilled sea fish, scallops or Comté cheese. Also an excellent choice with mushroom risotto or lobster.
Special Features
An authentic Jura Chardonnay that masterfully combines freshness and substance. At 13.5% alcohol perfectly balanced – neither too light nor too weighty. A wine that bears the hallmark of the region and brings pleasure even when young.
