Colour & Appearance

Dense, deep cherry red with ruby reflections that hint at the vintage’s maturity. In the glass, an impressive concentration reveals itself with dense, slow tears – a promise of substance and extract.

Nose

Complex and multi-layered: dark cherries and blackberries meet cedarwood, tobacco and vanilla from the barrel ageing. With air contact, notes of leather, cloves and a hint of chocolate develop. The cool nights of the high-altitude vineyards are reflected in the fine, almost Burgundian freshness.

Palate

Powerful yet elegantly structured. The 14.5% alcohol is perfectly integrated into a framework of ripe, fine-grained tannins. Black fruits, plum and liquorice dominate, underpinned by a spicy minerality that expresses the austere terroir at 850 to 930 metres altitude. The acidity is lively, but never intrusive – a balancing act that succeeds.

Finish

Long, spicy and persistent. Dark chocolate, espresso and Mediterranean herbs linger for minutes. The tannins remain present but refined – a wine that can age for years to come.

Terroir & Origin

The vineyards in northern Ribera del Duero benefit from extreme temperature variations – often over 15°C between day and night. This high-altitude site on austere soils was already Felix Callejo’s vision: concentration through austerity, freshness through altitude. His four children, including two oenologists with international experience, continue this legacy consistently.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Tempranillo from family-owned vineyards, traditionally aged with extended maturation in French and American oak barrels. The Reserva de la Familia is the pinnacle of the house – produced only in outstanding vintages.

Food Pairing Recommendations

A wine for lamb rack with rosemary crust, braised beef cheeks, grilled entrecôte or aged Manchego. Also an excellent choice with game dishes and hearty stews.
