The Callejo family of winemakers comes from the small village of Sotillo de la Ribera. The founder Felix Callejo had to take over his father's inheritance at a young age. Today, the winery is run by the son and the three daughters. Two of the siblings are studied oenologists who gained their experience in different parts of the world. The vineyards are located in the northern part of the Ribera del Dueros at an altitude of 850 to 930 metres. The temperature differences between day and night are often over 15°C. The cool nights provide a pleasant freshness that is also reflected in the wines. Already at that time the founding father Felix Callejo had recognized that there is no lack of sun and heat in the hot central Spain and the barren soils together with the altitude are the ideal prerequisite to produce top quality wine.
