Terroir & Origin

The vineyard site La Poza de Ballesteros lies in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, that northern sub-region characterised by its cool continental climate, proximity to the Sierra de Cantabria and its distinctive clay-rich calcareous soils. These soils – locally known as arcillas calizas – impart a structural tension and mineral freshness to the wines that sets them apart from the fuller, warmer wines of Rioja Alta or Rioja Baja. The vintage 2020 brought warm, dry conditions to the region, favouring ripe fruit without compromising the freshness of the higher elevations.

Grape Variety & Vinification
