Wine Description for Dorsheim Riesling „Eierfels“ 2024 by Diel

Character
A dry Riesling from one of the most renowned vineyard sites on the Nahe, vinified by an estate that has been counted among the pioneers of the German Riesling renaissance for decades. Weingut Diel, under the direction of Caroline Diel, stands for precise, terroir-driven wines that prioritise elegance over opulence. The Eierfels embodies the characteristic minerality and freshness for which Dorsheim Rieslings are prized.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Dorsheimer Eierfels is characterised by porphyry and volcanic stone, which imparts a distinctive mineral signature to the wines. The Nahe region, often described as a bridge between the Mosel and Rheingau, combines various geological formations in a confined area. The south-westerly exposure and stony soils provide optimal ripening conditions, whilst the cool nights preserve the characteristic acidity structure. The 2024 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling in its purest form: the philosophy of Diel is based on minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation to express the vineyard site’s character authentically. The wines mature traditionally in large wooden casks, which provide structure without masking the fruit. The dry style underscores the natural tension between fruit, minerality and acidity – a hallmark of the Diel signature, which places finesse and ageing potential at the forefront.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to freshwater fish such as trout or pike-perch, seafood and oysters. The mineral precision harmonises beautifully with goat’s cheese, asparagus and light Asian dishes. Also an excellent choice with poultry in light sauce or a classic Wiener Schnitzel. The vibrant acidity makes it an ideal aperitif.
