Wine Description for Côtes du Rhône Rouge AOC 2022 by Marcoux

Colour & Appearance
Clear cherry red with a slightly pale rim – a wine that already displays its youth and freshness in the glass.
Nose
Restrained and fine-boned, this Côtes du Rhône presents itself with understated elegance. The fruit deliberately leans towards the cooler side: rosehip, redcurrant, raspberry and plum with a tendency towards acid-driven, almost unripe fruit. Provençal herbs join in – lavender and thyme – immediately evoking the wind-swept hills of the southern Rhône. Subtle hints of pine bark, forest floor, juniper and black pepper round out the aromatic picture.
Palate
This quiet, almost shy character continues on the palate – and therein lies the beauty of this wine. No fruit bomb, no extractive power despite 15% alcohol. Instead: fine-boned elegance that flows gently across the palate. The fruit remains restrained, the spicy components add subtle accents without dominating. Pure nonchalance – an uncomplicated yet charming companion.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from four hectares spread across the extensive appellation: Orange, Maucoil and Bois Lauzon. The vines are rooted in alluvial soils and clay – typical for this versatile region, which shifts between Mediterranean influence and mistral-driven climate.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The cuvée is based on Grenache and Syrah, complemented by a small proportion of Mourvèdre. After careful selection in the vineyard and at the sorting table, the grapes are completely destemmed and fermented under temperature control. The wine is aged for ten months in cement tanks – a deliberate choice for freshness and fruit clarity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile everyday wine: braised pork cheeks with kohlrabi, grilled Portobello mushrooms with parsley butter or even a bouillabaisse with Comté and Sauce Rouille. Its restrained character makes it the ideal dining companion.
Special Characteristics
A Côtes du Rhône that deliberately embraces understatement – not a powerhouse, but a wine with Mediterranean lightness and Provençal soul. Perfect for any occasion.
