Wine Description for Corton Grand Cru „Le Rognet“ Vieilles Vignes AOC 2022 by Bruno Clavelier

Character
Bruno Clavelier belongs to those winemakers who interpret Burgundy without great marketing fanfare – focused, terroir-driven, crafted with precision. His Corton Grand Cru from the vineyard site „Le Rognet“ comes from old vines and represents the powerful, masculine side of the Corton hill. Unlike the floral, delicate red wines of the Côte de Beaune, this wine displays structured elegance with mineral depth and long ageing potential. The 2022 vintage produced concentrated, fresh wines despite climatic challenges.
Terroir & Origin
The Corton is the only Grand Cru for red wine in the Côte de Beaune and crowns the legendary hill of Aloxe-Corton. The parcel „Le Rognet“ lies on the south-eastern exposure with stony, iron oxide-rich limestone soils that give the wine its characteristic tension and minerality. The aspect and the old vines (Vieilles Vignes) ensure natural yield reduction and concentration. Here Pinot Noir is created with substance, translating the geological power of the terroir directly into the glass.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir shows its spiciest, earthiest facet in Grand Cru Corton – less fruit opulence, more depth. Bruno Clavelier works with minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation, moderate oak use, no cosmetic corrections. The old vines naturally bring balance and complexity. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine remains classically proportioned, without modern over-extraction. The ageing respects the cool elegance of the 2022 vintage, which produced surprisingly precise wines after a difficult summer.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Grand Cru calls for game dishesvenison loin with lingonberries, braised partridge or wild duck breast. Also Bœuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin or aged Comté harmonise beautifully with the earthy structure. The mineral tension pairs excellently with mushroom dishes and truffles. A wine for the cooler months, uniting substance and finesse.
