Wine Description for Corton Grand Cru „Le Rognet“ Vieilles Vignes AOC 2022 by Bruno Clavelier

Character
A Grand Cru of quiet authority. Bruno Clavelier’s wine from the Rognet – one of the southernmost and warmest vineyard sites on the Corton hill – unites the structural power of the appellation’s mountain with that refined Pinot elegance that only old vines can deliver. The vintage 2022, marked by extraordinary warmth and early ripeness, bestows upon the wine a sensual density that is nonetheless tempered by artisanal restraint.
Terroir & Origin
The Corton hill in the Côte de Beaune is Burgundy’s only region that produces both red and white Grand Cru. The climat Le Rognet, situated in the south-east of the hill near Ladoix-Serrigny, rests upon clay-rich, iron-bearing soils above a limestone foundation – a bedrock that lends the wine depth, texture and an unmistakable mineral tension. The warm, dry summer of 2022 brought concentrated grapes whilst allowing for early harvest – a challenge that experienced winemakers such as Clavelier mastered with precise timing.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Noir from old vines – Vieilles Vignes – means lower yields, deeper root systems and a natural concentration that no technical intervention can replicate. Bruno Clavelier, renowned for his traditional, terroir-driven approach in Vosne-Romanée, works with minimal intervention: gentle extraction, judicious use of Burgundy barrels and an ageing process that allows the terroir to speak without overworking it. The result is a wine of substantial body at 13.5% ABV and dry character.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The power and complexity of this Grand Cru calls for equally worthy table companions: Boeuf Bourguignon, braised lamb shoulder with Provençal herbs or wild boar loin with mushroom jus. A mature Époisses or a robust Comté also form a classic Burgundian symbiosis. The wine demands time – in the glass as well as at the table.
