Wine Description for Chamery Rouge Coteaux Champenois 2022 by Bonnet-Ponson

Colour & Appearance
Luminous cherry red in the glass, clear and inviting – a Pinot Meunier that visually announces its accessibility from the outset.
Nose
Open-hearted and charming, this sulphur-free Meunier presents itself with disarming honesty. Sweet cherries and damsons dominate, accompanied by raspberries and a subtle yeasty note. A gently lactic component adds depth to the bouquet – unfiltered and sincere in its expression.
Palate
On the palate, Chamery Rouge reveals its full personality: juicy, vibrant and of remarkable purity. The delicate red fruit is carried by a fine-grained texture, whilst whole-bunch fermentation provides welcome structure. At 12% alcohol, it remains elegant and eminently drinkable – Glouglou at its finest, as only Champagne can produce it.
Finish
Pure, juicy and with pleasant length. The fruit lingers without dominating, the stems leaving a fine, structure-giving aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
Hailing from Chamery, the grapes grow on chalky clay, interspersed with limestone pebbles. The subsoil of sands and fossilised shells lends the wine its mineral precision and freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Meunier (here designated as Meunier de Chamery), destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation in sandstone eggs and 400-litre barrels over 10 days, followed by maturation in the same vessels. Bottled without sulphur addition – a bold step that showcases the grape variety in its purest form.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The versatility of this wine shines with Dim Sum, Saltimbocca with Parma ham and sage or, surprisingly, with roasted pumpkin with Harissa. A wine that accompanies light to medium-weight dishes with finesse.
Special Features
A rare still wine from Champagne that demonstrates what Pinot Meunier can achieve without sparkling wine production. The sulphur-free vinification by Cyril Bonnet underscores the philosophy of Bonnet-Ponson: authentic, terroir-driven wines without compromise.
