Wine Description for BAM! 2012+Réserve Perpetuelle Brut Nature by Tarlant
- Colour & Appearance
- Rich golden yellow with bright reflections, threaded through with a fine, persistent mousse, rising elegantly and evenly – a visual promise of maturity and complexity.
- Nose
- Here unfolds a radical departure from Champagne classics Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The nose opens with exotic spice notes – saffron, turmeric, cinnamon – before a multifaceted fruit spectrum follows: white currants, wild raspberries, mango, grilled pineapple, papaya and mirabelle plum. These are joined by earthy hints of undergrowth, liquorice and dried herbs such as marjoram and sage. The mineral side emerges with wet stone, oyster shell and flint, rounded off by a whisper of Tarte Tatin – pastry-like warmth meets cool minerality.
- Palate
- Monumental. Orchestral. A Champagne that unites power and elegance in rare balance. The texture is saline-mineral, the mousse finely melting, the acidity precise as a scalpel. Saffron and turmeric return, embedded in ripe yellow and red fruit, whilst the mineral vein provides depth and length. No dominance, but perfect harmony between fruit, spice, finesse and structure. This is a Champagne that demands stillness and concentration – and rewards generously.
- Finish
- Long, cool, mineral. The saline precision persists, accompanied by a fine smoky note and a lingering spice that resonates on the palate.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- BAM! stands for three rare, yet permitted Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Blanc (27%), Arbanne (27%) and Petit Meslier (46%). The base is formed from the harvest of 26 September 2012, supplemented by reserve wines from a Solera dating back to 2007. Disgorged on 3 June 2024, Brut Nature – without any dosage. A radical statement for purists.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- This Champagne demands equally complex partners: scallops with saffron foam, pan-fried turbot, langoustines, Poulet de Bresse with morels or aged Comté. Also a revelation with truffle-based dishes or oysters.
- Special Features
- Tarlant’s BAM! is a radical homage to forgotten grape varieties of Champagne. The combination of Solera system, extended ageing and zero dosage makes this Champagne an extraordinary character wine – nothing for beginners, everything for discoverers.
