Wine description for Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru rouge AOC 2023 by Pierre & Louis Trapet

Character
A classic Burgundy from the heart of the Côte de Beaune – precise, with fine structure and that unmistakable balance between elegance and depth that distinguishes the finest wines of this region. With a moderate alcohol content of 12.5%, this Premier Cru demonstrates the restraint and seriousness one expects from a carefully crafted Burgundy.
Terroir & Origin
Auxey-Duresses lies in the shadow of the more famous neighbours Meursault and Volnay – and that is precisely what makes it so interesting. The village nestles in a side valley of the Côte de Beaune, where the slopes offer cooler exposures and limestone-rich, clay-laden soils. Premier Cru vineyard sites lend the wine an additional complexity and depth that goes beyond the everyday. The 2023 vintage brought warm, dry conditions to Burgundy with good ripeness and pleasingly preserved acidity – a vintage that promises both freshness and substance.
Grape variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in Burgundy is not merely a grape variety – it is a means of expressing the place. The winery Pierre & Louis Trapet, known for its biodynamic approach and a philosophy of non-intervention, works with the greatest care both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The wine is aged traditionally in Burgundy barrels, with the proportion of new wood deliberately kept low to let the terroir speak – not the winemaker.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The silky texture and vibrant acidity make this wine a versatile companion at the table. Classically, it harmonises with Coq au Vin, grilled lamb rack or duck breast with cherries. Game dishes such as venison fillet with mushrooms or a simple but good roast beef are ideal partners. Those who prefer less meat-heavy fare will also be delighted by mushroom risotto or aged Comté.
