Wine description for From the Gardens Neuburger dry 2023 by Nikolaihof

Colour & Appearance
Radiant, pale golden yellow – clear and inviting in the glass, with youthful lustre.
Nose
The nose is characterised by immediate, vibrant juiciness. Ripe apricot and pear meet the fresh citrus note of orange zest and an invigorating hint of rhubarb. Subtle ginger spice and delicate nutty nuances weave through an animated bouquet of flowers and herbs – complex, yet never overdone.
Palate
On the palate, the wine shows youthful freshness, with yellow fruit, fine, well-integrated acidity and a pleasant grip that lends tension and structure. A creamy, silky texture gives the wine depth and elegance – light-footed, yet far from trivial.
Finish
Medium length, with lingering spice and a fresh, aromatic aftertaste. The wine leaves a clean, stimulating impression.
Terroir & Origin
The wine comes from the gardens of the venerable Nikolaihof in the Wachau, one of Austria’s oldest wine estates with biodynamic cultivation. The Wachau primary rock terraces impart mineral freshness and characterful individuality to the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Neuburger is an autochthonous Austrian grape variety that has found one of its last significant homelands in the Wachau. It combines floral elegance with nutty spice and naturally soft acidity structure – a character that in the 2023 vintage with 12.0% alcohol is particularly well-balanced here.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile table companion: excellent with egg salad with curry and sesame-honey dressing as well as classic cheese fondue. The wine’s creamy texture and subtle spice harmonise ideally with melting cheese dishes and aromatic spiced foods.
Special Features
A rare example of an almost forgotten grape variety, vinified by one of Austria’s most traditional biodynamic wine estates. Those who know Neuburger understand: this wine is no compromise – it is a statement of individuality.
